Your tour begins at the south end of the Westminster Bridge. As you descend the stairs to the river path (The Queen’s Walk), you will leave the noise of the cars behind. You’ll walk right under the colossal London Eye ferris wheel. You’ll continue flanked by street performers, second-hand bookstores under bridges, and improvised jazz musicians.
After passing the immense brick chimney of the Tate Modern, your final destination will appear in front of you: the Millennium Bridge, the futuristic steel walkway that crosses the river pointing directly towards the immense dome of St Paul’s Cathedral.
Yellow Zone: It is an extremely safe area in terms of violence, but due to the immense number of distracted tourists, it is a “hot spot” for pickpockets. Keep your bags closed in front of you and keep an eye on your phone when taking photos.
Inclusion Grade: Gold. The walk (The Queen’s Walk) is wide, paved, 100% flat and free of vehicular traffic. There are ramps and lifts to access the bridges, making it ideal for wheelchairs, although crowds can slow you down.
When you reach your destination (Millennium Bridge), do not cross yet. Stop right in the center of the south side access ramp (Tate Modern side). Align the perfectly straight steel walkway in front of you with the majestic dome of St Paul’s Cathedral in the background. At dusk, the light illuminates the cathedral while the bridge becomes a futuristic arrow pointing towards it.
