Footwear in London must be ergonomic and water-resistant for the heroic cobblestones and drizzle. A light waterproof coat is your best ally. In summer: Bring light clothes but always a thin jacket. Bring a reusable metal bottle; public water fountains are constantly expanding and will keep you fresh without generating waste.
Escape Route: From Heathrow Airport (LHR) to central London. Avoid taking the high-speed Heathrow Express if you are on a budget, or the slow Piccadilly Line if you have a lot of luggage and seek comfort. We recommend taking the Elizabeth Line: it’s modern, comfortable, accessible, air-conditioned, and takes you to the centre in 30 minutes for an intermediate price.
The Paris Metro is fast and extensive, but its old tunnels and platforms can be noisy and confusing, with many stairs and little accessibility. For your peace of mind: Use the Vélib’ bicycle lane network to move above ground ecologically. Walk along the pedestrian docks of the Seine or take the public bus to enjoy the urban views of Paris.
