Start your tour in the central nave, where you can still feel the scale of the trains that once left for the southwest of France. Look up at the glass and iron vault, a feat of engineering that allows the art to be seen in the same light in which it was painted. The highlight is the fifth floor: walk towards the Giant Clocks on the old façade. Through its golden hands, you will see the Seine and the Louvre as if you were inside a time capsule. Here, the white noise of the city is muted, letting the works of Degas and Cézanne speak directly to your senses.
Level: Low (Museum Control). It is a highly secure environment. It is recommended that you wear comfortable shoes for the 90-minute tour. Security cameras and staff are present in each room. For conservation reasons, it is prohibited to use flash and get closer than one meter to the paintings.
Grade: Platinum. The Musée d’Orsay is a model of accessibility. It has multiple elevators, ramps and wheelchairs available for free. All levels are accessible and the floor is completely flat. For people with hearing disabilities, there are induction loops and visual guides. The open space of the central nave facilitates intuitive navigation.
The Eye of Time. On the fifth floor, stand exactly behind the clock on the right (facing the Seine). Focus your lens through the glass to capture the silhouette of the Sacré-Cœur framed by the clock’s Roman numerals. It is the image that summarizes the spirit of the museum.
