Access through the elevated passages that allow you to observe the temporal layers of the city. The VIP tour takes you to discover the impressive monolith of Coyolxauhqui, the lunar goddess, and the imposing relief of Tlaltecuhtli, the deity of the earth. You will visit the Enclosure of the Eagle Knights, where warriors performed their initiation rituals, and explore the eight rooms of the museum that house unique offerings of jade, obsidian and snails. It is a technical immersion that uses natural light and spatial layout to narrate the rise and mystique of an empire that was considered the center of the world.
Level: High (Urban Safe Zone). Located in one of the most guarded areas of the Historic Center, the facility has INAH personnel and private security. It is recommended to be attentive to belongings in the external areas (Zócalo), but inside the museum and the archaeological zone the environment is extremely safe and controlled.
Grade: Silver. The museum is equipped with elevators and ramps on most of its levels. However, the tour through the archaeological zone is done through mesh walkways that can be uncomfortable for certain types of footwear or wheelchairs with very thin wheels. Caution is advised on rainy days as outdoor surfaces may become slippery.
El Mirador de la Coyolxauhqui. From the elevated platform of the museum that looks towards the archaeological zone, position yourself at noon. The light falls vertically over the construction stages, revealing the depth and true scale of what was the Templo Mayor. It is the point where the overlap of the colonial city and the Mexica is best appreciated.
