The unique shape of the park is due to the fact that it was built on the land of the old Hipódromo de la Condesa. The curved layout of Mexico Avenue and the park's interior roads follow exactly the shape of the Jockey Club horse racing track that operated there at the beginning of the 20th century. It is a fascinating example of how sports history shaped modern urban planning in CDMX.
It is the centerpiece of the Lindbergh Forum and was created by the sculptor José María Fernández Urbina. The model for the female figure was Luz Jiménez, an indigenous Nahua woman who became the muse of Mexican nationalist art (she also modeled for Diego Rivera). The fountain represents fertility and connection to the earth, seamlessly integrated into the geometric aesthetic of Art Deco.
Parque México is the epicenter of pet-friendly culture. It has a delimited canine area where dogs can be off leash. However, in the rest of the park the use of a leash is mandatory to preserve social harmony. We recommend visiting the surrounding cafes on Amsterdam Street; most offer water fountains and special menus for pets, completing an experience of shared urban luxury.
La Condesa will be one of the most dynamic neighborhoods during the World Cup 2026. Local designer markets, cultural broadcasts in the surrounding area and a vibrant nightlife are expected to transform the park into an international meeting point. We recommend visiting the Lindbergh Forum at dawn to enjoy its architecture in solitude before the festive energy of the tournament activates the gastronomic corridor. In the heart of La Condesa, Parque México (officially Parque General San Martín) stands as the pinnacle of Art Deco urbanism in Latin America. Inaugurated in 1927 as the axis of the Hipódromo neighborhood, its characteristic elliptical layout preserves the memory of the old Jockey Club horse racing track. It is a 9-hectare oasis where the elegance of geometric lines merges with dense and mature vegetation, creating a refuge of high aesthetic quality that encourages organic social connection and sensory well-being.

As you walk along its curved paths, you will find yourself immersed in a symphony of design and nature. We suggest heading to the majestic Lindbergh Forum, an open-air theater named in honor of the aviator Charles Lindbergh, where five monumental pillars and Art Deco pergolas frame the iconic Fountain of the Pitchers. Find a seat under the shadows filtered by the ahuehuetes and jacarandas; here time seems to slow down. It is the perfect setting to observe the Condesa’s vibrant pet-friendly culture as the evening light highlights the forum’s nationalist reliefs, offering an urban experience that is both cosmopolitan and deeply authentic.

Level: Green. One of the safest parks in the city, with constant patrolling and private security in the surrounding businesses. During the 2026 World Cup, it is recommended to monitor personal belongings in areas of high social density such as the Lindbergh Forum, although the area will function as a tourist ‘Safe Zone’ with reinforced surveillance.

Accessibility and mobility

Grade: Gold. The park is a model of universal accessibility with wide, smooth concrete paths without steps. The Lindbergh Forum has side ramps that allow full access to the central plaza, ideal for wheelchair users or families with strollers.

Golden Spot Tips

Exact center of the Lindbergh Forum, in front of the Fuente de los Cántaros. Align the 5 monumental pillars for a perfect composition. Pro Tip: Come at 5:30 PM. Grazing light behind the pillars creates dramatic Art Deco silhouettes and highlights the nationalist reliefs of the forum.
