Your journey begins at the monumental Porta San Sebastiano, the entrance to the past. You will cross the Aurelian walls to enter a world of meadows and ruins. You will pass through the catacombs, but your real objective is the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, where ancient basolat meets dreamlike gardens.
The “secret” heart is the Villa di Capo di Bove, an intimate archaeological complex with ruins of thermal baths from the 2nd century. Here you can walk among open-air mosaics in an environment designed for absolute calm, far from the queues and hustle and bustle of the center.

Safety Tip: If you ride a bicycle, be careful on the original cobblestone sections; The blocks are uneven and can be slippery if wet. Stay on dirt/grass side trails.

Position yourself in front of the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella just before sunset. The circular structure casts an eternal shadow on the Roman cobblestones, while the cypress trees are silhouetted against an intense orange sky. It is the visual definition of the “Regina Viarum”. At Capo di Bove, look for the inner thermal baths corner for a close-up photo of the Roman mosaics under natural light.
